To Begin With…
This is a project that started with a sedum plant that I gathered from a friends flower garden in the late Fall. The plants were naturally dried and had lost much of their Summer colors. As I looked at them, I became intrigued with their shapes and saw a hint of what I could do with these flowers photographically.
It Was the Shape
The flowers and stems were photographed individually in a way that created a black silhouette of their shape. Each was positioned in front of a bright light ( backlighted ) and resulting image was a black flower with a white background. The resulting shape/silhouette resembles a full sized tree.
The Composite Story
These silhouettes were then used to create composites in Photoshop. Various layers, textures, color fills and blend modes were combined and saved as separate “trees”. Later these tree were combined to make their own “Woods”.
